As the November 8, 2016 Presidential Election nears, it is time to ask questions pertaining to how voters will choose to cast their ballots. The table below sorts the 2012 vote in Harris County by the race and ethnicity of the elected official currently holding the State Representative District. It may provide a glimpse of the possibilities in the upcoming election.

The voting data shows that 66.1% of voters who cast ballots in the 2012 November Election in Harris County who reside in SRDs represented by elected officials of African American ancestry voted early. Although the total percent was the highest compared to the other sorted groups, it was down 3% compared to the 2008 total.

Voting data shows that 65.7% of voters who cast ballots in the 2012 November Election in Harris County who reside in SRDs represented by non-Hispanic White elected officials voted early, similar to 2008.

Voting data shows that 56.4% of voters who cast ballots in the 2012 November Election in Harris County who reside in SRDs represented by elected officials of Hispanic ancestry voted early,  a six percent points increase compared to 2008.

Overall, voters residing in SRDs represented by minorities constituted 41 percent of the early voters in the 2012 Presidential election in Harris County.

NOTE: Post 2010 Census, the number of SRDs in Harris County went from 25 to 24. Thus, the redistricting process could have impacted the 2012 vs 2008 voting percentages for each sorted group on this table.
